GENERAL
SPC is engaged in a host of activities to support its
nationwide sales operations. The following will briefly describe
these:
1) SPC
is an importer. The company is recognized as the prime
supplier of importer coated papers and boards to the printing
, publishing and packaging industries. In addition, the company
also makes available a whole range of specialty and other
papers and boards suited for various packages.
2) SPC
is a converter. Major part of the company's operation
is derived from purchasing "jumbo" rolls from local
mills and converting them into sizes that the printers and
offices can readily use.
3) SPC
is a trader. It is actively engaged in the buying and
selling of other printing supplies without need of conversion
and alteration.
4) SPC
is a stocklist. The company maintains a substantial level
of inventory for all its printer clients. It "stocks"
all items that it currently sells in the market.
5) SPC
is a banker. Even during the worst of the economic problems,
the company has continued to provide financing to the printing
industry by providing credit. This is a role which the company
has carefully preserved.

SPC follows the product management and profit center concept.
Each major product group has designated Product and Brand
Managers whose primary responsibility is the profit performance
of their assigned products.
This managements
style allows easy pinpointing of responsibility and efficient
corporate reward and punishment system.
Also this
style insures that all products receive optimum attention
irrespective of the volume or status of their current business.

SPC
has a nationwide marketing network. The country has more
than islands divided into three major island groups -Luzon,
Visayas and Mindanao. The center of government and business
is located in Luzon in what is known as Metro Manila. The
marketing network to cover these areas are:
METRO
MANILA
The hub of its marketing is naturally concentrated in METRO
MANILA where most of the Philippine printers, corporate offices
, and packaging companies are located. This market is served
by the company mainly through its well developed system of
telephone selling manned by 12 experienced lady telesales
representatives. A group of female product promotion executives
further reinforce the telesales group In addition, schools,
offices and bookstores are serviced directly by field sales
representatives.
In 1992
a very extensive network of innovative "over-the-counter"
sales network has been successfully established in all important
bookstores and other outlets for its PARKER product lines.
This has proven to be a major undertaking which accounted
for the very strong comeback of PARKER in the Philippine market.
As more
and more diversified products are handled by the company, adjustments
in its marketing and selling structure are introduced. For
instance, van selling is recently being tried out for BICYCLE
playing cards.
NORTHERN
AND SOUTHERN LUZON
This big market is serviced in two ways. A team of roving
salesmen visits each client in these areas twice a month .
In addition, the telesales reps call on each major account
by long-distance telephone during the periods when the roving
salesman is not expected to make a personal visit. We service
clients as far north as Laoag and south as Legaspi in Luzon.
VISAYAS
AND MINDANAO
The rest of the country is serviced through five (5) Branch
offices located strategically in key cities of CEBU,ILOILO
and BACOLOD to cover Visayas and DAVAO and CAGAYAN DE ORO
to cover
MINDANAO.
All the
branches were established during the worst of economic times
at the rate of one every two years since 1985. The branches
are complete by themselves . They have their own set of sales
people, delivery vehicles, and ready stocks of paper, printing
supplies ,bookstore items and diversified products. There
is constant two way communication with the head office and
they are regularly visited and monitored by company executives.
Telephone selling within METRO CEBU, DAVAO, CAGAYAN DE ORO,
ILOILO and BACOLOD is also a regular mode of selling in the
branches.
